About this service
Bathroom Remodeling in the Capital Region.
A full bathroom remodel takes the room back to studs and subfloor and rebuilds it with new plumbing, new tile, new fixtures, and — when it makes sense — a new layout. HomeNest clients usually commission remodels when their bathroom is the last dated room in an otherwise updated home, when they want to convert a tub to a walk-in shower, or when a primary suite needs an upgrade that reflects the rest of the house.
Pricing across scope
Typical Capital Region projects run $18,000 to $50,000 or more. A powder room or small guest bath sits on the lower end. A primary suite with a double vanity, custom shower, and heated floors lives in the middle. A full suite rebuild with a free-standing tub, walk-in shower with multiple heads, and custom tile work pushes toward the top. The final number depends heavily on tile choices and fixture level.
Layout drives everything
Most older Albany, Saratoga Springs, and Guilderland bathrooms were designed for small tubs and tiny vanities. Modern life wants more: walk-in showers with bench seating, storage that actually holds what you own, and lighting good enough to get ready by. Even within the same square footage, a layout change can completely transform how the room feels. Jeff personally walks every project and flags the small moves — shifting a door, relocating a toilet a few inches, widening a vanity — that have outsized effect on daily use.
Tile, waterproofing, and the details behind the walls
Tile is what people see; waterproofing is what keeps the project healthy for 20 years. We build showers with a Schluter (or equivalent) waterproofing system, not just backer board — it's more expensive up front and non-negotiable in our process. Behind the tile, plumbing and electrical often need updating to current code. This is where full remodels earn their price: you can't shortcut the stuff behind the walls, and the difference between doing it right and faking it only shows up years later.
Tub-to-shower conversions
Tub-to-shower conversions are one of our most-requested scopes. In a typical Capital Region home, a 60x32 alcove tub gets replaced with a curbless walk-in shower — linear drain, frameless glass, tile bench or niche storage. Expect $15,000-$25,000 for a standard conversion with premium tile and glass. It's the single highest-impact bathroom change short of a layout rebuild, and it's what a lot of our empty-nester clients ask for first.
Materials and selections
Porcelain and ceramic tile dominate bathroom floors and walls. Large-format tiles (12x24 and up) are popular for the clean grout-line look; zellige and hand-made-look tiles read high-end and photograph beautifully. Counters are quartz in most of our projects. Fixtures range widely — we'll help you navigate what's a meaningful upgrade versus what's just a bigger brand sticker.
Timeline and living through it
A full bathroom remodel typically runs 4-6 weeks on-site. If it's your only bathroom, we stage the work to minimize down days. Most Capital Region families have a second bathroom to use, which simplifies the schedule. Related scope: if you're also updating your kitchen, considering a larger home remodel, or finishing a lower level in our basement remodeling scope, bundling reduces mobilization costs.
