Remodeling in Menands
Remodeling in the Village of Menands.
Menands is a village in the Town of Colonie in Albany County, on the west bank of the Hudson between Albany and Troy. About 4,500 people live here in roughly 2,300 homes. Broadway, the old Albany-Watervliet Turnpike and today’s NY Route 32, runs through the village, I-787 serves it at exits 6 and 7, the Troy-Menands Bridge crosses to Troy, and Route 378 climbs toward Loudonville. The village is named for Louis Menand, who settled here in 1842, and it was incorporated in 1924.
Kitchens come first
Kitchen remodels are the project Menands homeowners ask about most. A full kitchen remodel typically means a new layout where it makes sense, new cabinetry, stone counters, new appliances, and often new plumbing and electrical behind the walls. When the layout already works, a lighter kitchen renovation refreshes cabinets, counters, and fixtures for a fraction of the cost. Either way, owner Jeff walks the kitchen with you before we quote it, because the right scope depends on how your family actually uses the room.
Homes in the Menand Park Historic District
The Menand Park Historic District, bounded roughly by Menand Road, Broadway, and Tillinghast Avenue, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and all 21 of its contributing buildings are residences. If your home is in the district, interior work like a kitchen or bathroom remodel is usually straightforward, and we check with the village building department before planning any exterior changes. Homes of this age also tend to hide plaster, wiring, and plumbing surprises, so we scope those at the walkthrough instead of mid-project.
Basements near the river
Much of Menands sits low and flat near the Hudson, so we start every basement project with a free moisture assessment. If there is an active water issue, we fix it with drainage, a sump, grading, or sealing before any finishing work begins. Once the space is dry, a finished basement is one of the most cost-effective ways to add a family room, office, or guest space.
